4 Females Ugandan Artistes Giving Their Male Counterparts a Run for Their Money

Two decades ago, the Ugandan music industry was mostly dominated by male artistes, with a few musicians trying unsuccessfully to make it.

Over the years, the equation has changed with several female artistes making it to the top and giving their male counterparts a run for their money.

Cindy Sanyu

The self-styled 'King Herself' is an established musical an exciting performer. Her hard work has seen her win several awards including; Best Female East African Artiste in the AFRIMMA awards. A few months ago, she made history when she became the first woman to stage a sold-out concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval, one of the largest venues in Uganda.

Sheebah Karungi

Sheebah started out as a dancer, joining Obsessions group in 2006. She made a tough decision of embarking on a solo career and her life changed for the better. Her first single came in 2010, but her breakthrough came much later when she dropped her hit single dubbed 'Ice cream'. She currently has 5 studio albums with ‘Samali’ being the latest released in August.

Spice Diana

Spice Diana is an award-winning singer, performer and fashionista. She made her debuted in 2014 under Source Management and has never looked back. She is one of the few artistes in Uganda who’ve been releasing back to back songs. Despite being only 24 years, she is one of Uganda’s most sought after musicians by corporates and event organisers.

Vinka

Vinka officially released her first single dubbed ‘Level’ on 1st February 2017. She went ahead to release a number of bangers later that year, making her one of the fast-rising artistes back then. At the beginning of 2019, Vinka announced that she will be dropping a new video every month for the rest of the year, and true to her word, she delivered the promise.
