Most Ugandan artistes have been snubbing the Ugandan Musicians Association ever since Ykee Benda took over as president, replacing Sophie Gombya who resigned a few weeks ago.

According to a section of artistes, Ykee Benda lacks the relevant credentials to head the association since he is relatively young in the industry.

Amid all the criticism, Ykee Benda has decided to ignore his critics and instead channel his energy towards improving affairs at the associations.

In a bid to grow the association and make him a better leader, Ykee Benda has invited legendary artistes to join the association and be part of his advisors and counsel.

"UMA came up with a strategy of bringing together the pillars of the industry for the past years and we started with chairman National Cultural Forum Ragga Dee,” he said.

He further noted that he will soon be meeting Halima Namakula, Afrigo Band's Moses Matovu, Joanitah Kawalya and many others, to engage them on the association’s issues.

According to Ykee Benda, the move to onboard veteran artistes is also aimed at cementing the association's relationship with the National Cultural Forum.

Speaking after joining the association, Ragga Dee called upon all Ugandan artistes to join UMA because it is the only way they would get government's help and support.
