Ciara is making sure that black people stay proud and rooted in their blackness with her new single dubbed ‘Rooted’ featuring Ester Dean.

‘Rooted’ is a single about the celebration of blackness and Ciara is asking girls and boys in the black community to stay true and super-proud of who they are. This is a statement on its own as black people need to feel beautiful at every point of their lives especially now during the BLM movement.

The ‘Rooted’ single starts off in chants that are mostly in Patwa; this is heavily incorporated through-out the song both in chants and putting words together. The beat opens up heavy and busy; the track is created over a busy bass-heavy fast-paced beat. This creates pace for Ciara’s singing flow and does not allow for many harmonies especially because of the chants.

The video is everything beautiful about the black community within Ciara’s reach; it gives us black joy, black success, gravity-defying hair and a lot of melanin. The video was shot before Ciara gave birth to her son and so she is serving us with looks and choreography a couple of weeks before giving birth. Ciara includes her son, Future and daughter, Sienna in the video. The video is heavy on more dancers besides Ciara which works well because it is such a heavy song.

This is definitely going to feature in many black magic playlists because it is both uplifting and celebratory of black people’s magic. Catch a vibe with Ciara and Ester Dean on ‘Rooted’.
