Sinach's Song 'Way Maker' Nominated For Top Awards In The US

Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter Sinach continues to set new records globally thanks her hit single titled 'Way Maker'.
The song which has seen several top gospel singers do its cover and translated into 50 different languages has now been nominated for for awards in two different categories in one of the biggest music awards in the United States of America.
According to Business Day, two different versions of 'Way Maker' have been nominated for the Dove Awards 2020.
The categories that the song has been nominated for include
‘Song of the Year’, Spanish Language Recorded Song of the Year (as recorded by Priscilla Bueno), and Worship Recorded Song of the Year (as recorded by Leeland).
Dove Awards is organized by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) of the United States.
It is the first time a song done by a Nigerian singer has been nominated for the song of the year category at the annual Dove Awards.
Responding to news of her song's nomination, Sinach said: “This nomination could only have come through the Spirit of God and not man."
"As I have said before, this song was born from the Spirit and it is soaring on the wings of the Holy Ghost. It is a song for the now. I am grateful to everyone who has supported us, the churches, the ministers who have taken this song to the ends of the earth, and the many people it continues to be a blessing to," she added.
The original version of 'Way Maker' was released in 2015 and has seen internal gospel acts like Bethel Music, Christafari, Leeland, Michael Smith and Passion Worship Bank release cover versions that have equally been hits.
In May this year, Sinach made history as a first Nigerian singer to top the Billboard charts for Christian Songwriters in over 10 consecutive weeks and also have two covers among the 10 Hot Christian Songs chart.
It was the first time in the history of the Hot Christian songs that two versions of the same song have resided simultaneously in the top 10.
Leeland’s version is currently ninth on the chart, while Michael W. Smith’s version is in the third position.
On 7 March 2019, "Way Maker" video reached 100 million views, making Sinach the first Nigerian gospel singer and the third Nigerian singer overall to accomplish the feat.
The video published in December 2015 currently has over 155 million views.
