Ugandan Musicians Association (UMA) President Ykee Benda has been subject of criticism ever since he took over from Sophie Gombya who resigned from the position a month ago.

Several artistes have constantly bashed him claiming he does not have the required credentials to take up such a big office, and that he is also relatively new in the Ugandan music industry.

In as much as fellow artistes don’t have faith in him, the Mpaka Records boss says he only has good intentions for them.

In an interview with NBS After 5, Ykee Benda divulged his mission for the association, stating that under his leadership, he will work towards ensuring that artiste earn good money before performing.

He further noted that artistes should come out in large numbers and vote for their preferred candidate to head the association, since he is an acting president.

He, however, noted that regardless of the election outcome, he will still be around the association due to his love for music.

"I want to see every artiste with Ugx 100 million in stacked in their bank accounts before they step on any stage.

"One assurance I can give them is that I will be there. Whether as a commoner or a leader to give my views because my love for music in a business mind,” he said.
