Renowned Ugandan musician Ykee Benda has come under so much criticism since he took up over the presidency of the Uganda Musicians Association from Sophie Gombya following her retirement.

Many artistes have constantly bashed him saying he does not have the credentials to take up such a big office considering that he has not been in the music industry for so long.

Eddy Kenzo and Gravity Omutujju are among artistes who think this post is too huge for Ykee Benda.

"I addressed Eddy Kenzo and showed him the light. I believe he is old enough to understand. If he did not get the message, we need to ask what he is saying but whatever it is, I know he understood and wherever this goes, what we need is unity and push the industry forward through mutual respect," he said.

Ykee Benda believes the industry has so many issues to fight for rather than bickering over who is president.

He called upon artistes to come out vote for the person they want since he is just an acting president who only stepped up because Sophie Gombya resigned.

"I love this industry and I'm not going anywhere whether I'm president or not. I will be here and lay out my issues that push the industry forward," he added.

Eddy Kenzo has urged artistes to make sure that the person they are electing next should have the relevant qualifications to lead the association.
