Top Ugandan gospel artiste Pastor Wilson Bugembe has opened up on the future of the gospel music industry in Uganda.
Currently the Ugandan gospel music industry is more vibrant compared to several years ago when gospel music was majorly done for charity, with gospel artistes being under paid because they were expected to do the Lord’s work.
A few months ago, reformed secular artiste Desire Luzinda divulged that many artistes who started singing in the church have left gospel music to sing secular songs due to luck of support especially from the church.
According to Pastor Bugembe, the industry has evolved so much and gospel artistes can now charge the same amount like secular artistes.
“We are now enjoying the fruits of our sweat. I remember when Judith Babirye asked for Shs1m to sing at a wedding and it reached a point of people rioting in the church but her efforts changed things. Today, Levixone, Coopy Bly, Exodus can ask for Ugx 2m and it will be paid. So the future is really bright,” Pastor Bugembe said during an interview.
