Chemutai Sage Set to Drop New 5-Song EP Dubbed ‘Jungle Trap’

Renowned Kenyan musician Chemutai Sage is set to make a comeback into the music scene with her five track EP dubbed 'Jungle Trap' set to be released on Friday 31st July 2020 across all digital platforms. 

Jungle Trap follows on from Chemutai Sage’s commitment to release a song every month under the OSAM (One Song A Month) challenge at the end of 2019 that included other artistes from the Kenyan alternative scene namely; Tetu shani, Noel Nderitu, Rigga among others.

Formerly known by her stage name Sage, this new EP showcases her versatility. Work on the EP began in 2016 and is a beautiful culmination of an individual ready to reclaim her place in the music echelons. 

“Jungle Trap is a gift to anyone who has been through a tough past, has felt helpless or unworthy,” she said.

As a songwriter for the EP, it wasn’t always easy for her hence the three years it took her to come up with the project.

During the writing period, she experienced a variety of challenges including a long spell of writers’ block.

For two years, she worked on recovering from a depression that she suffered between those years. Having undergone depression herself, Chemutai Sage is now a strong advocate for mental health and mental health awareness, as well as postpartum depression. 

The lead song in the EP is ‘Jungle Trap, which according to Sage is all about discovering yourself better.

 “Jungle Trap speaks to finding one's own magic and reveling in the beauty of your "otherness", the flaws you are too afraid to embrace and the 'you-ness' that you have always wanted to stand tall and claim,” she divulged.

Other songs in the EP include; Oceans, Infatuated, Lifestyle and This Person.

Oceans will be released as the first song off the EP on 24th July 2020.  The song is a declaration of worthiness to be loved and love in its entirety. 

Chemutai Sage is mostly known for her break out collaboration ‘So-Alive’ which she released early 2013 featuring well known Kenyan rapper Octopizzo.

She is a pianist and self-taught guitarist. Not one to be put inside a box, her music can be described as a fusion of R&B, neo-soul and pop with a hint of African rhythm.
