Ugandan award-winning artiste and vocalist Iryn Namubiru is proof that as an artiste, you do not need a manager to succeed.

On several occasions, we have witnessed Ugandan artistes battle it out with their managers who end up confiscating their social media logins, property and bad mouthing their names on the media.

According to Namubiru, she is making it work without having a person represent her as a manager because most of these people actually do more harm than good to the artiste.

"It has not been easy in the industry especially when it comes to management. Real management has not been easy. You get someone to represent you but you have no idea how they are doing it. You get to a point when people do not even want to speak to you because of the way someone represents you out there so I settle with assistants but not managers," she said.

She insists that most people who act as managers fight for money instead of protecting their artiste's reputation.

"You have to be with a manager who will go out all for you, look for endorsements, someone you would trust to speak for you and not get scared that you will be misrepresented. Being a manager is more than just running around and distributing CDs," Namubiru  said.

She noted that she does all her music deals and transactions via WhatsApp to avoid cases of fraud.
