Finally!! A breath of fresh air in the Kenyan gospel scene
7 August 2014
Ancient Greek mythology speaks of sea creatures by the name Sea Sirens who had odd features of a fish from waist down and resembled the female species of human kind from waist up. Three in number, they would sing with alluring voices that would have sailors loose their sense of direction or even crash their ships.
Well here’s one lady with a voice that would have brought Goliath to his knees and anyone else trapped in an unending moment of utter amazement! Meet songbird and gospel artitse Mercy Opande, a singer who wants to heal the nation with her voice.
With her short and chubby appearance, one would not believe the voice she vents when she opens her mouth! Her new single 'Love’, has taken the airwaves by storm ever since it was released.

Mercy’s sound is a smooth feel of R&B and despite how length the song is, you will have yourself compelled to play it over and over. Message of the song? ‘Love’, like the word itself carries a simple message of encouragement to Christians and Kenyans in general to share the emotion with each and everyone .
“Jesus died for Jews, the kiuks and the Luos” she sings. Having backed several artists including Bishop Joseph WW Kamau of Happy Church Ministries International and collaborated with DJ Gylo on ‘Wee Ngai’ Mercy is no new faceto the music scene.
Mercy's strong vocals can only be compared to Cece Winans and MaryMary. It is true that many people still don’t believe that it’s a Kenyan when they hear the song but Mercy says it’s all glory to God.
Why does she sing? “I believe I was born to awaken the love of God and His worship to a generation that longs to fall in Love with Jesus.’’ She calmly stated.
The song is definitely going to stick in our hearts for a while and perhaps for eternity, because good music is not under the mercies of the sands of time. Listen to the song right here on Mdundo and get in touch with your spiritual self.
Love Gospel music? Love Mdundo!
