D'banj Responds To Rape Claims, Calls For A Stop To 'Social Media Trial'

Nigerian musician Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo better known by his stage name D'banj has asked social media users to stop trying him over rape allegations that he is facing.

In a tweet, D'banj who is also a songwriter, rapper, entrepreneur and television personality maintained that he remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

The singer who has won several music awards further affirmed his support for efforts to fight against rape and other human rights violations.

"Innocent until proven guilty...., STOP SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL #SAY NO TO RAPE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION," D'banj tweeted.

On Monday, Seyitan Babatayo, who has accused D’Banj of raping her in 2018 formally filed her complaint with the police.

She has accused he singer of commiting the crime on her in a hotel room in 2018.

"D’banj gained access into my hotel room at past midnight while I was asleep. He violated and raped me," read part of Seyitan statement to the police.

There were also claims that D'banj tried to use the police to intimidate the woman in an attempt to silence her.

D'banj has since denied claims of raping Seyitan.
