Just like other music industries, the Bongo music scene had music groups that were making good music before they just vanished never to be heard of again.

Most disintegrated over irreconcilable differences, with members choosing to pursue solo careers.

This article looks at four of the best music groups that ruled the airwaves in the past decade:

1. Offside Trick

Offside trick is a prestigious mduara music group from Zanzibar Tanzania. They are famed for big hits like Ahmada ft veteran musician the late Bi. Kidude. The group was very vibrant during its peak, and was among the top music groups in East Africa. It is not clear what happened to the group, leading to its disappearance, but they are greatly missed.

2. TMK Wanaume

This was one of Tanzania’s biggest music groups. It was made up of; Mheshimiwa Temba, Juma Nature, Y Dash, Chege, Inspector Haroun, Dolo, Rich One and KR. They were famed for big hits like Dar Mpaka Moro. However, the group split into two and saw Juma Nature, Dolo, Rich One and KR walk away and form their own faction dubbed TMK Wanaume Halisi.

3. Ruby Band

The band had 5 members, and was likened to the former Yamoto Band. They jumped into stardom just a year before the latter group disbanded. Ruby band is famed for big hits like Kisebusebu, Noma, Kuntu, Sawa, among others.

4. Salamu TMK

This was an 8-member band of young stars under the Mkubwa na Wanawe management. They sprung to the limelight with one of their biggest song ‘Nafsi’ that got over 2 million views on YouTube.
