African Dancehall King Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale has disclosed that instead of Ghanaians respecting an artist based on whether he has won a BET before, they should consider the genre of music the artist is into.
The self acclaimed African Dancehall King, has urged Ghanaians to stop according respect only to artists who have a BET award before. Speaking in an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on United Showbiz on UTV, Shatta Wale explained that dancehall artistes shouldn’t focus on BET awards because it’s for Hip Hop and RnB artists.
” Ghanaians like that too much! If you don’t get a BET award, they discredit every other award you get which shouldn’t be so. My brother Stonebwoy and I should be focused on IRAWMA Awards because it celebrates African dancehall artistes across the globe” Shatta Wale told Nana Ama McBrown.
See let me tell you this, the BET is dominated by Hip Hop and RnB artists and I will always pick the IRAWMA over it because it’s the only award scheme that celebrates dancehall artistes” Shatta Wale added. Shatta Wale further stated that the BET award should be fought for by Hip Hop and RnB artists like Sarkodie.
