Nigeria Raggae Music Icon Majek Fashek Passes On

Nigerian Raggae artist Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly know as Majek Fashek has passed on.

The music icon's manager Uzoma Omenka confirmed the death in a video posted on the singer's official Instagram account on Tuesday, June 2.

In the video, Omenka said: "Yes, it is true that the legend has gone to be with the Lord. But this time I want to say we should all celebrate him, his achievements. He has done a lot for Nigeria and for Africa."

“Whatever the family decides, I will get (it) to you. This is all I have to say for now," he added.

It is reported that Majek Fashek died on Monday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in New York, United States.

Majek Fashek was best known in Nigeria for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single "Send Down the Rain".

Also known as The Rainmaker, Majek Fashek worked with various artists worldwide, including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.

He died aged 71.
