Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has asked National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi to pull down a tweet about the voters’ register that referenced Goerge Floyd’s murder. Sammy Gyamfi's tweet was an illustration that sought to express how he felt the Electoral Commission and the government was handling the new voters’ register saga.
Sammy Gyamfi had earlier tried to justify the artwork on social media saying: "Floyd was choked to death, while screaming for breathe. In GH today, the Jean Mensah-led EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register.
The potential victims of this grave injustice, are screaming for breathe. They are screaming for their inalienable right to vote." “Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register. Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere. This is a serious matter, not a joke."
Nevertheless, Sarkodie who is not in favour of what Sammy Gyamfi did said it was still not right to make nor post the artwork over the death George Floyd which is a very sensitive issue. Sarkodie went ahead and urged the NDC communicator to retract and take his post down.
