Popular Kikuyu Benga musician Jimmy Wayuni has died after being involved in a grisly road crash along Thika Road.

Reports indicate that Wayuni died after his vehicle hit a lorry at Kahawa Sukari area, as he was driving to Nairobi from Ruiru.

According to police reports, Wayuni was trying to exit from Thika Road at Githurai 45, when he unfortunately hit a lorry from behind.

His friend and fellow musician Jacksam Kibandi, who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident has survived the crash, and is currently receiving treatment.

“What we have gathered so far is that the said musician was heading from Ruiru to Nairobi. He tried to exit the highway at Kahawa Sukari and join the service lane that leads to Githurai 45 when he rammed into a lorry.

“He was seriously injured and was rushed to St Joseph Hospital where he passed away while undergoing treatment,” Ruiru OCPD Phineas Ringera told Nation FM.

Wayuni is known for hits such as Nindakunyita, Mama Sululu, Airìtu a Ruiru, Anisa, Karenjù, and Utuire uhenagia among others.

His death comes a couple of months after the country lost another Benga Maestro John De Matthew in a road accident at Thika.
