We all like how SAINT JHN writes because he explores relationships with an alternative choice of words which makes his music beautiful (accredited to writing Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl). He is back with his alternative sound on a new single ‘Ransom’.
‘Ransom’ is a single about being in a relationship that is beautiful when it is and gets really messy but you are still trying to keep the respect going. So it is feeling captive of a love that is not quite reciprocated.
The audio is put on a strong hip-hop beat. We all have been learning that SAINT JHN is very experimental about his music and he almost flows in whichever way; he can flow on a singing rhythm and on a rap rhythm. On this particular single, he is rapping and his delivery is very on point and deliberate on slowing down the flow making it a medium-paced single.
The video is off a project that SAINT JHN has been running on his socials for his new videos dubbed ‘One Take’. Essentially, every video that he puts out is shot on his equipment; phone or otherwise; and the first shot of the video is the final shot that will be released. So, the ‘Ransom’ video is shot in a bay area just in front of the beach; has a very Coastal vibe. SAINT JHN stays quite far from the camera and he is flowing with his movements in just shorts.
Catch a one take vibe with SAINT JHN on ‘Ransom’.
