That Nigeria is full of talents when it comes to the entertainment industry in Africa is not in any doubt.
With over 200 million people, Nigeria has tens of musicians, known globally, in Africa or locally. With such a booming industry, it is expected that there are equally a high number of disc jockeys.
We take a look at the 7 arguably top Nigerian Deejays who are also musicians. Note that the appearance of these deejays in this article is not in any particular order;
DJ Lambo
In a career dominated by men, DJ Lambo born Olawunmi Okerayi has managed to break the ceiling. Her song ‘Drank’ produced by Reinhard received positive critical reviews and extensive airplay.
DJ Lambo was signed to Loopy Music in 2013 before its merger with Chocolate City in 2015.
DJ Ecool
Commonly known as the official DJ of American-born Nigerian singer, the Atlanta-based Nigerian-born DJ ranks highly among the disc jockeys in Nigeria. He is signed to the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) record label.
One of his recent projects is an Extended Play (EP) titled New Side that contains 7 tracks with collaborations with singers Mayorkun, Zlatan, Dremo, Myde and Kenyan singer Victoria Kimani.
DJ Cuppy
Officially known as Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, DJ Cuppy is another female DJ who has managed to shine in the male-dominated field. It is only recently that she was ranked among the Forbes Africa #30Under30.
DJ Cuppy’s recent song is titled Gelato that features Zlatan Ibile which was released in 2019.
DJ Spinall
DJ Spinall has set several records among them being the first Nigerian DJ to tour 5 cities in the United States in 2017 and the first DJ from Nigerian to perform at Glastonbury Festival in 2019.
For the music career, DJ Spinall released his debut album titled ‘My Story’ in 2015.
DJ Neptune
Born Imohiosen Patrick, DJ Neptune has three albums to his name the latest one being Love and Greatness EP that was released in 2019.
During this year’s Easter, DJ Neptune teamed with Teni for an EP dubbed The Quarantine Playlist.
One of the best songs that DJ Neptune is involved in is ‘Nobody’ a joint effort with Mr Eazi and Joeboy.
DJ Big N
The Mavin Records Deejay has several songs to his name and one album. He is known for supporting several of the label’s singers including Tiwa Savage during her first tour in the US.
DJ Big N’s recent song is ‘Ife’, a love song in which he features Mavin Record boss Donn Jazzy and Teni.
DJ Enimoney
Officially known as Eniola Olamilekan Adedeji, DJ Enimoney is the official DJ of YNBL Nation record label that was founded by his younger brother Olamide who is also a singer.
DJ Enimoney who is also a recording artist had three nominations in 2018 for Nigerian Entertainment award for Best DJ, City People Music Award for Popular Song of the Year and City People Musc Award for DJ of the Year (Male).
