We have watched John Legend try his hand in Reggae music more than twice and we can all agree that the genre agrees with him pretty well. He is back at it with a collaborative single with Reggae royalty Buju Banton for a single ‘Memories’.

‘Memories’ is a single that reminisces a love that slipped through the cracks that might have been sealed before that. Really a song to make you think about the one that you let get away. It is definitely true that it is during this time of quarantine/lockdown that many people are remembering all the people in this category and Buju and John are here to help you sing it.

The song starts off with Buju laying down some spoken word lines to really put the song into context. The beat comes on, starting off slow and John introduces us to the chorus of the single. It is a good marriage of voices in this particular single; John Legend has that smooth sailing voice with raspy edges while Buju Banton has that aggressive way about his deep ruffish voice.

The vocals are laid on a reggae beat. The beat is well tuned to suite both voices; it is slow and groovy for John to lay down his vocals and it gets busy and a little faster for Buju Banton to lay down his verses. It remains very cohesive despite the beat breaks between the two artists.

Catch a reminiscent vibe with John Legend and Buju Banton on ‘Memories’ and remember not to call your ex.
