Every musician has a story behind their aspiration to pursue music as a full-time career, with most crediting their love for music to family background and upbringing.

Speaking during a recent interview, Ugandan artist Hajarah Namukwaaya commonly known as Spice Diana divulged that growing up, she did not picture herself being a musician, and had little interest towards music.

She noted that it was until Form Five that she realized her dream, and had to first consult her mother for a go ahead before trying it out.

"I had that thought and I consulted her but she never liked the idea. This was because of the negativity that came with it. Many people always say that music is for spoiled people. But my mum is and has always been my best friend. We talked about it and she advised me on how to behave and she has always supported me since then," Spice Diana said in an interview with NBS TV.

According to the mum, she had no idea that the daughter could consider pursuing music as a career, adding that she was surprised when she finally came out to her with the intentions.

"I faced many challenges when my child started pursuing music. Many people hated me and refused their children from playing with mine, because they thought Spice Diana would spoil them. They said she will divert them from school and drag them to music. But I was able to stand, counsel and encourage her to succeed, and she did not disappoint me," Spice Diana's mum said.

When asked who she wants her daughter to be like in the music industry, Spice Diana's mother was quick to mention Jose Chameleone's name.

"I want her to be like Jose Chameloene because no one is like him. All his songs have a message and he is still standing despite the many years he has been in the industry," She said.
