What Smallz Lethal says about Khaligraph's 'I Run 254', Common Mwananchi sales!

When it comes to Hiphop, it begins and ends with who’s the best!

Hiphop music is not a new genre, it dates back to about 40 years. However, the roots of Hiphop are in the fusion of Africa and America.

During our weekly Live Twitter Interview last Friday with one of the best Hiphoppas in Kenya, Smallz Lethal, the rapper pointed out, rather agreed to the fact that Kenyan Hiphop scene has been stagnant for a while and that “…new cats need to step up their game.” At a time when we’re still dealing with the issue of underplayed local content -  topic for another day!

The artist recently dropped his debut album titled ‘Common Mwananchi’ and as he revealed to us during the live chat, he has managed to sell over 2000 copies at a street value of 300 Shs each. That’s fair apart from a few more downloads on Mdundo.

Considering competition is good for business, we asked Smallz why he never wrote a side-response when fellow rapper Khaligraph released ‘I run 254’;

“He runs 254 rap, not Hiphop which is a lifestyle. He got skills though,” Washamba Wenza member told Mdundo.

Rising rap star Kendrick Lamar’s provocative verse attacking fellow mc’s on Big Sean’s ‘Control’ serves as a reminder for why competition is good in hip-hop.

Smallz Lethal is currently on album promo tour and Mdundo wishes him all the best, him and all other Kenyan artists putting in work.

Join our live chat every Friday 4pm on twitter @mdundomusic, new artists, new topics to discuss! The revolution of Kenyan music.
