Meet Khaligraph's producer, learn about one of the best Hiphop recording studios!

I often wonder if musicians like Poxi Presha, K-Rupt, Mighty King Kong and so many other legends knew what they were recording when they were recording.

When Kalamashaka were recording “Ni Wakati” did they know they were recording something that would soon launch them to the status of arguably the greatest Hiphop group in East Africa? Or were they just some dumb kids in the streets of Dandora excited about making their first record?

Either way when you finally become great, you look back at where you’ve come from with a feeling of nostalgia, and thank God you made it. That is why I needed to write this blog.

Great music can be recorded anywhere, but still you have to know how to work the equipment. If you've got Khaligraph on the mic, you have a much better chance of recording something better than if you had Jakaqu behind the mic.

I had the pleasure of having a conversation with Ares, who has produced many hits for Khaligraph including Aboterimoss, Shiro, We Be Happening.... and the list is endless. He started out with the Kayole rapper and has molded him to the great rapper he is right now.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Khaligraph for so long. He's like one of the greatest artists I've ever heard, and had. Yes we’ve been recording together since time,” Ares to Mdundo.com.

Located in the city, the studio Ares works with has hosted other great Hiphoppas including Ace Tha Don, Abbas, Ridiq K Voke, Kayvo Kforce, Salez Kalahari, Xtatic, Rabbit Kaka Sungura, Oxide Oxido, Dola Kabari and a few others. Right now he’s already signed young artists who are emerging in the industry.

“I think the rest are good to go, at the moment I’m concentrating on these young rappers; Cashy and Hayze, they’re so promising soon they’ll be out in the game fully loaded.”

The studio in question is Big Beatz Afriq and I’m liable to say it’s one of the best Hiphop recording houses in Nairobi, if not the best.

Recently partnered with Mdundo for distribution, check out Ares' profile here. More about him and the label in our next posts.
