From Pacho to Chuo Records with self-determination

The hip hop scene in Kenya keeps growing by leaps and bounds each day with new artists breaking into the mainstream industry.

So far hiphop remains one of the most popular genres in Kenya backed by a large number of fans.

Ram G, an artist who is currently signed to Chuo Records, is one such artists making a break through despite being in the music industry since 2007. He explains to Mdundo how he was interested in music from a young age.

“I started singing from the time I joined high school back in 2003 and immediately I was done with school I released my first single ‘Meza’ and eventually got signed to Rapdamu’s Pacho in 2009. My contract with the label ended in 2012 and that’s how I got to join Chuo,” Ram G.

The artist, who describes his music as Ghipuka (the art of diversity), recently released a new track titled ‘Bam Bam’ featuring Vioxii that has been receiving a fair share of airplay in local stations as well as downloads at Mdundo.

“What inspired me to do this song mostly were the instrumentals. I had lyrics that fit in well for it based on everything that was happening in my life and my music. I featured Vioxii on it because I wanted to give him a platform to showcase his skills too,” he added.

The artist is currently working on the video for ‘Bam Bam’ and is set to release his album in January next year. Download the song for free via the link tagged below.
