Alicia Keys has been on a high since towards the end of 2019 and it seems like she is not slowing down any time soon this 2020. She released the single ‘Underdog’ and its visuals over the weekend and it looks like the year is shaping up well with more inspiration from Alicia.
Underdog is Alicia Keys trying to tap into the soul of every hustler who cares to listen to her. She comes through with the hopeful message that everything will be okay and someday their star too shall shine.
She lays down some clean vocals and her being Alicia, she is not scared of breaking notes trying to get to higher notes than her range which is actually something she thrives on. There is a lot of chanting and harmonies in the making of the song which also mark the intro and outros of the song. There is also a lot of build up from the verses to the hook then the chorus which is acoustic guitar, then a bit of layering and eventually a mash-up of instruments with a strong bass to amp the song.
The video takes the direction of having different characters to represent the different kinds of people Alicia is trying to speak on. We get the single mother, the loving father, the artist and the beautiful daughter. It is many different worlds coming together beautifully. It also includes a bit of dancing and a lot of fun for Alicia and friends.
