Katy Perry Vs Flames Legal Battle

Katy Perry has been in court over the infringement of copyrights against Gospel rapper’ Flames over her song ‘Dark Horse’. Flames took her to court over her using the same beat and song for her 2013 hit song from his gospel song ‘Joyful Noise’.
Katy’s lawyer argued that with this day and age, beats sound a lot similar and a lot of sampling is going on in the industry. Katy also indicated under oath that she had never heard the song before 2013 despite Flames having released his song in 2008. Flames and Da Truth (the co-writer of joyful Noise) argued that their song was on all main streaming and downloading channels therefore making it available for Katy to access.
Katy Perry has since lost the copyright battle that was presented before a jury. The jury is set to present the amount Katy and her team will have to pay for this infringement in the few coming days.
