A number of top East African artists are said to be planning to boycott the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards scheduled for the 7th of June, 2014 in Durban South Africa.

The artists are blaming the organizers of the acclaimed annual music awards for favoring Nigerian and South African musicians who dominated the nominations.

“Uganda was worst hit because their nomination is a collabo with Amani, who is a Kenyan artist,” one of Kenyans top musicians who requested anonymity told Nairobi news who were the first to come up with the story.

Some of the regions artists who were expected to scoop nominations at the awards include Tanzania’s AY, Ommy Dimpoz and Lady JayDee, Kenya’s STL, Elani, Wyre, P-unit and Uganda’s super star Jose Chameleon alongside Hip hop’s top lyricists Navio.

Diamond, Amani and all boy group Sauti Sol are the only East African representative in the awards together with 12 Years a slave break away actress Lupita Nyong’o who has been nominated in the non- music category.
