Opinion: Why hip hop is the future of kenyan music
7 April 2014
Rapping is most probably my kind of thing and for any artist or rapper out there you know how vital it is to write a subtle rhyme yet remain relevant at the same time, so needless to say, writing is one of my many talents.
Looking back is not my thing and i doubt i am headed that way so lets talk about the future of Kenya's Hip Hop scene. Despite little airplay of local music in the airwaves, the future looks very promising and certain that indeed, the 254 is headed back to the days when Hip Hop ruled the airwaves.
Brand new artistes are sprouting up every day and its only right to assume that despite the country's recent leaning towards dancehall music, hip hop has remained relevant.
Talents like Jay A, Camp Mulla, Khaligraph, Octopizzo and most recently Trap Town have emerged and the list is endless since there are several talented artists out there.
Dancehall music is big in Kenya yet there are only few artists who are involved in the genre in a lot arguably led by none other than Wyre. The sprouting young generation has got both partying and looking swagged up in their minds. Walk along the streets and you'll see how much Hip Hop has influenced the modern fashion trends in Kenya.
Dancehall kills the party and hip hop gives you swag and class so its only right to conclude that the local scene is on a one-way highway to... (and i know some people will not agree, but i'll say it) ...HIP HOP CULTURE!!!
