Dancehall superstar Vybz Cartel sentenced to life imprisonment

Jamaica’s dancehall superstar Adidja Palmer popularly known as Vybez Kartel aka the world Boss has been sentenced to life in prison for murder.

The controversial influential artist was handed the life sentence by Justice Lennox Campbell of Jamaica’s Supreme Court, where several roads were closed within the vicinity of the Downtown Kingstone courthouse in anticipation of the sentencing which was originally scheduled for March 27th.

On March 13, Kartel was found guilty of the August 16, 2011 murder of his former friend Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Kartel’s associates Kahira Jones and Andre St John were also handed life sentences alongside their boss but Shane Williams is the only one who was found not guilty in the case which has shocked the dancehall world.

The 58 days trial has been termed as the longest court battle in the history of Jamaica.

However, the “Clarks” hit maker will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years of his life sentence with his two friends Kahira and John being eligible for parole after serving 25 years behind bars.

Vybez Kartel lawyers are expected to appeal the conviction, a process which is expected to take between 6-12 months.

Kartel is regarded as the Boss of worldwide dancehall music and his conviction has surely dealt a huge blow to the dancehall scene.
