MTV MAMA awards to be held in S.A for the first time ever

This year’s edition of the much acclaimed MTV Africa Music Awards will be held in South Africa for the first time since the award was launched in 2008, in Nigeria.
The MTV Africa Music Awards were established to celebrate and award the best African musicians in Hip Hop, R&B, Afro House, Kwaito, Boomba, Bongo flava, Coupe Decale, Dancehall, Soul and Rock music.
The songs that will be battling it out are those that were released from the 20th of March last year to the 19th of March 2014 with the nominees list set to revealed on the 16th of next month before the ceremony which will be held on June 7th in Durban, South Africa.
The awards will be preceded by three stunning “Road to MAMA” events in Durban, South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria and Nairobi, building up to the main show, featuring MAMA nominees alongside the most current local artists and DJ's. The events will take place during April and May 2014.
Artists will be recognized in thirteen different award categories including Best Male, Best Female and Best New Act.
This year, three new lifestyle awards will be added to the music categories, including the “MAMA Leadership Award” and “Personality of the Year”.A special award,“Transform Today byAbsolut” willcelebrate the power of young individuals to transform the image of Africa through their creativity and vision.
In 2009, the awards were held here in Kenya where Nameless bagged two of the prestigious categories winning the best Male Singer and the Listeners Choice while another Kenyan musician Amani won the Best Female Singer.
