Opinion: Where Kenyan artists go wrong in their music videos
21 March 2014
Money, success and fame are some of the benefits that the expanding music industry has brought to our Kenyan artists.
The past few years has seen a steady growth of the industry with our musicians managing to penetrate the African audience and even the competitive international audience.
Video production levels are above par currently with artists now coming up with Kenyan produced videos that are competing with the best videos out there in the world of music; however despite the success there is one thing that just doesn't settle quite you will with me and I'm sure some of you have noted it down too, the costumes.
Personally to me when you hold a platform which is as bold and exposing as that of an artist, it is part of your duty to promote the pride of your country and represent it well however from most music videos which i have watched people seem to be branding out other countries other than their own.
This is why i am proud of artists such as Didi Kimmer and Kris Eeh Baba because they are proud of their Maasai heritage and have made it their duty to promote their roots and background ; it is very disturbing to me once i see a whole artist dance crew line up and the artist themselves branded fully in another countries flag it just does not make sense to me.
Our artists are our Country’s ambassadors and should try depict the Kenyan spirit in their videos.
Though i may be generalizing and putting it out in broader terms, i hope that you understand what I'm trying to point out or whats your opinion?
