KENYA: Juliani Launches Video For His New Track ‘Machozi ya Jana’
18 May 2017
Gospel hip-hop sensation Juliani has launched a new video for his track ‘Machozi ya Jana’ (Swahili for yesterday’s tears).
The new video aims to re-ignite and expand public debate on the need to have a radically transform police service in the country as well as inspire a powerful movement that drives the country towards police reform.
Marked as a tribute song to the late Willie Kimani, Joseph Muiruri and Josephat Mwenda, the video was launched at Michael Joseph Centre, with a panel session discussion on how Kenya can forge forward from the dark colonial days of extra-judicial killings.
“This new video and song serves as a wake-up call to each and every one of us to speak up for the voiceless in the society. We need to call an end to extra judicial killings. We can only do this by creating a movement that forces the authorities to look more keenly into such critical matters and as such bolster structures that will ensure accountability within the police force. If we don’t, we increase the risks of our brothers and sisters falling prey to these predicaments,” noted Juliani.
“This is the 21st century. We have constitution. We need to rally all Kenyans to champion for police accountability so that we reduce the cases of extra-judicial killings in the country. Many innocent Kenyans have been killed and perpetrators walk away scot free,” adds Juliani
Other stakeholders that were present during the video launch include: leading human rights bodies, IPOA and the National Police Service representatives.
