Opinion: As an artist don't just spend, Invest
12 March 2014
Kenyan artists are some of the notorious in Africa for squandering their hard earned cash.
In this very competitive music industry, most musicians work hard to create a viable brand for themselves and take a long time to find a footing, but things change almost immediately when finally things open up and they start making some financial gains.
Once the money and the fame kicks in most of these artists forget about their initial struggles and where they came from, drugs, women and expensive lifestyles now become the order of the day for the once struggling fellows.
Lack of guidance from family members makes the situation even worse, with fully booked shows and endorsements, these artists make a lot of money which gets into their heads and make them feel like small gods.
Many artists especially the young upcoming ones drown in the fame and use all the money they get from music to indulge in all manners of bad behavior from women and drugs to expensive lifestyles.
What these artists fail to understand is that the fame and the money won’t last forever, once their music career starts declining their lives also start going downwards and all of a sudden all the fame and the money disappears.
Most of these talented stars usually end up living a miserable and pathetic life after squandering all their saving living life on the fast lane.
Concerned Players in the music industry including Record labels, producers and all related organizations should take initiatives to educate our artists on how they can invest their money in profitable ventures which will ensure these artist live comfortable lives even long after their music career has ended.
