UGANDA:Throw Back With The Obsessions.
15 September 2016
Back in the 2000s the obssessions was one let me rephrase that is was the only prominent entertainment group it had the sexiest girls in kampala and majority of the girls around town fantasized about joining the group.
They had solidified their presence in the market as one of the leading entertainment brands in Uganda. The entertainment industry in Uganda and East Africa in general is growing at an incredible rate with customers not only demanded wide variety but also were willing to pay for the quality entertainment they provided.
They put up numerous classical theater production at The National Theatre and these included, “Princess Miana, “Cleopatra”, “Heart of A Dancer”, “Legend of The Scepter”, “Queen of Sheba”, “Before Adam & Eve” and “Return to Innocence”,” Spirit of the Sun” all written by then Africa’s young playwright Ronnie Mulindwa, Artistic Director of Obsessions Co. Ltd. These productions won them theater box office records in sales as they are professionally impacting and unique compared to other theaters from other groups in Uganda by then hence their popularity.
They were able to over four albums with eight tracks each all of which received increased airplay on radio and were popular country wide and regionally. Their mission was “to create a leading entertainment brand that is credible and profitable” and they had a vision to be the leading entertainment in the region.
The group was nominated for various awards for example,
Pam awards Nominee Best Afro Beat Song 2006, Best RnB Song Wekuume, Best RnB Group 2006.
-Pam award Nominee Best RnB song 2007 Jukira
-Kisiima Awrads Kenya Winner Best Ugandan Video “Jangu Jangu”
-Buzz Awards Winner Best Urban Group and Best Dance Act, Best 2007, Best Collaboration “I will Do” ft Mr. Mosh.
The most popularly known members in the group were
Jackie Tusiime
Hellen Lukoma
Sharon Salmon
Sheebah Karungi
Brenda Nambi
Cleopatra Koheirwa
Despite the group having phased out they never stopped chasing their dreams and they have towned out to be some of the greatest young talents in Uganda.
Some of the songs we danced to from the obssessions back then were
Jangu jangu, nod your head, dance with me, you and me, Wekuume,I Will Do, Feel Me, Bagala Twawula. Begoonza/ Feel Me/Shake Yo Booty ft. Babe Cool/ Mbeere Nawe (Love Light)/ Napoteza/ Bagala Twawula and also singles like; Mwekutte, I Will Do ft. Mr. Mosh.
Ambitions grew and the girls all embarked on to solo careers and many of them have become very successful, they have stood out of the crowd each uniquely and extraordinarily .
Most of their journeys started with obsessions and they have become bigger over the years.
Time really flies
