KENYA: Gang That Attempted to Rob Calvo Mistari Located and Arrested in Githurai
22 March 2016
On February 18, musician Calvo Mistari made the news after he so vehemently saved the day after he fought off robbers that had raided his home in Madaraka estate where he was hosting a house party.
Mistari managed to untie himself and disarm the gang before they escaped leaving two of their weapons at the scene.
Police took away the guns and a mobile phone after one of the culprits dropped it. They had two pistols which had 24 bullets.
Since then one of the gang members has been frequently calling friends and relatives of the victims asking them to ensure the guns are returned to them.
The gang was later on located by police in Githurai estate with help from residents and later arrested.
The culprits were later identified as Frank Khamis alias Suleiman, Peter Waithaka alias Mgikuyu and Edwin Bwire alias Edu.
Last week the gang was arraigned in court where they were charged with robbery with violence and illegal possession of firearms.
On March 8, Embu county clerk Jim Kauma was questioned over the robbery. Kauma recorded a statement at Lang’ata police station over the gun attack at Madaraka Estate on February 19. He was later released.
Kauma was summoned by the CID after his brother-in–law Frank Khamis, the main suspect, told police the gun belonged to the clerk.
He denied the allegations, saying he did not own a firearm.
