Years after Kenyan artist Willy Paul ditched gospel music for secular music, he has confessed to maintaining the same relationship with God that he had then as a gospel artist.

In an unexpected confession, Willy Paul said that his music transition did not alter his faith as many people expected.

He is still a firm believer in the word of God and a day never goes by without him saying a prayer just like in his formative days as a gospel artist.

The ‘Toto’ hitmaker implores that even as a secular artist, he acknowledges the power of Christianity and its principles which have made him the star he is today.

For him, singing secular songs have nothing to do with his faith because he is a believer and will remain so to eternity.

"Before I step onto the stage, we pray, we have prayed even here. The only thing that changed about Willy Paul and God or what people call ministry is the type of music I do, but my relationship with God is still strong, I know how I communicate with Him," he revealed at Boom Fest over the weekend.

Willy Paul came onto the music scene in 2010 courtesy of US-based Kenyan singer Gloria Muliro who collaborated with him in ‘Sitolia’.

They also did ‘Kitanzi’ together and they were both huge hits. He followed them up with other big hit collaborations with artists such as Size 8 before crossing over to the secular world.
