3 East African Artists Grammy Awards Recognizes

The stakes for the Grammy Awards are high for artists across the world and three East African artists have won the admiration of the Grammy Academy.

So, who are they? Here they are.

  1. Femi One

Famous Kenyan rapper and songwriter Femi One expressed her pleasure at being named by the esteemed Grammy Awards as one of the top 10 African hip-hop artists. The "Properly" hitmaker said such recognition only speaks of how great she is as an artist.

In reaction to this, she wrote on her socials: “Still not over this. Imagine your Work being recognized by the GRAMMYS!!! What a WOW!! Let the sleeping masses keep sleeping, we keep pushing the boundaries.

"Being recognized is the first step now let’s work for a nomination. We keep working because truly you never know who is watching.”

  1. Rosa Ree

The Grammy Awards honoured Tanzanian musician Rosa Ree for her contributions to African hip-hop. Rosa Ree has been shattering barriers and defying expectations in the male-dominated genre since her breakout hit, "One Time," in 2016.

Her latest hit, "I'm Not Sorry," further supports her position as she adamantly embraces who she really is and defies social norms. She delivers flawlessly and her music has over the years risen above gender barriers.

  1. Sauti Sol

In 2023, Sauti Sol became Voting Members of the esteemed Recording Academy.

They conveyed their happiness and appreciation for the acknowledgement. Their participation demonstrated how Kenyan music is becoming more and more well-known throughout the world.

Sauti Sol's admission to the Recording Academy speaks to the Recording Academy’s push for the representation of musical diversity.
