Ugandan MP for Mukono Municipality Hon Betty Nambooze Bakireke has pleaded with Ugandan artists, Weasal, Spice Diana and David Lutaro to release new music focusing on the political struggle in the country.
The MP said Uganda is facing a political and administrative crisis with plundering of resources now at an all-time high.
She spoke at the National Theater during a vigil for the late Ugandan singer Adam Mulwana who died on Tuesday at his home.
Nambooze expressed that artists such as Spice Diana, Wesal and Lutaro composing songs on this, will trigger a political revolution in Uganda.
“We are going to start making roll call; we want you Spice Diana, Lutalo, Weasel, and all the upcoming artists… we need you to give us music for the liberation,” she implored.
Nambooze criticized Ugandan musicians for staying out of the political fight at a time when the current administration is allegedly mismanaging the country.
The Ugandan lawmaker pointed out that it is as clear as day that President Yoweri Museveni has failed Uganda and no artist can maintain a neutral position on this subject.
It is either they support the government or the opposition which is calling for reforms which artists should be a part of, because music is a powerful tool to speak to the people on what matters.
“The situation we are in, there is no middle ground. You are either here or there. All the counties that have passed through struggles like ours have made it through by having every person in their own sector becoming an activist,” she further stated.
While at it, Spice Diana has in the past kept off politics and even turned down pleas by a section of the Ugandan electorate to vie for Kampala District Woman MP in 2026.
