In the world of music stardom, where the allure of glitz and glamour can often lead artists astray, Nigerian singer Patoranking stands as a shining beacon of humanity and philanthropy. Born Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, the acclaimed dancehall artist has made it clear that his music is a tool for uplifting the common man, drawing inspiration from his own humble beginnings in the Lagos ghetto.

In a heartfelt interview with media personality Adesope on his Afrobeats Podcast, Patoranking shared his deep-rooted commitment to service to humanity, asserting that he opts for this path over the superficiality of fame. He believes that stardom carries with it a significant responsibility that many celebrities tend to overlook.

"I chose a path less traveled," Patoranking stated, "if you're a public figure, you're there for two reasons - 'glitz and glamour' or 'service to humanity,' and I chose service to humanity. It comes with a cost, and you have to live up to it. It's a responsibility. It's a path less traveled, and you might not get noticed, but you're doing your thing. The beauty of it is that whenever people look in that direction, you are there."

This choice stems from his own upbringing, growing up in the challenging environment of Ebute Metta, Lagos. Patoranking's childhood was marked by sharing a single room with his parents and five siblings, a backdrop that fueled his determination to rise above his circumstances. Since achieving stardom, he has been unwavering in his commitment to ensure he never returns to the struggles of his past.

Patoranking's humble origins have not only driven his own success but have also inspired him to be a guiding light for others. He strives to be the person he once needed when there was no one for him to look up to. "It's not a mistake that I am from the ghetto," he explained. "When I was growing up, we needed someone to look up to because there was no one, and then I became the person. I wanted to be that person. It's a responsibility because you have to make sure that there is peace in your community, and these are things that make me happy as a human."

His relentless dedication to uplifting his community is not just a public relations stunt; it's a deeply personal mission. Patoranking has consistently demonstrated his commitment to bettering the lives of others, without seeking public recognition for his charitable efforts. His actions speak louder than words.

In his music, Patoranking serves as an advocate for positivity, addressing issues of global concern, as seen in his song "Heal the World." Through his music, he encourages people to be the change they want to see in the world. He recognizes that coming from the slums with a poverty mindset doesn't offer much hope, but he stands as a testament to the possibility of success against all odds.

During a podcast hosted by renowned Gospel musician Tim Godfrey in 2022, Patoranking shared his vision: "Growing up, I had always known I would make it. Not because there was everything around me, but because that was the only option I had. Coming from the slum, a poverty mindset does not give one the opportunity to think far. It was a fight, and I won. I told myself I want to become a symbol of hope to other kids living in the slum. I want them to know it is possible for them to be successful."

In a world where many artists are consumed by fame and fortune, Patoranking's choice to prioritize humanity and generosity over his own celebrity is a testament to his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. His actions and music serve as an inspiration to all, proving that even amidst stardom, one can choose the path of service and positively impact the lives of others.
