In the dynamic realm of music where talent converges, collaborations have the power to transcend borders and genres. For Ugandan songstress Azawi, her journey took an exciting turn when she not only caught the attention of Jamaican dancehall star Konshens but also found herself in the midst of a collaborative masterpiece.

During an engaging appearance on Galaxy FM's drive show recently, Azawi, whose real name is Priscilla Zawedde, revealed the intriguing backstory of how the collaboration with Konshens came to fruition. It all began with a humble suggestion on her part to remix her hit track '10 over 10,' a song that resonates from her critically acclaimed Sankofa album.

In a delightful twist of fate, Konshens, known for his magnetic dancehall vibes, extended an unexpected offer. "My plan was for us to remix '10 over 10,' but he was like, let's do another song," Azawi recounted with a smile. It was a moment of validation for the Ugandan songstress, a recognition that her musical prowess could lead to a fresh, collaborative venture with a globally recognized artist.

Azawi, armed with her passion and a track titled 'Summer Bae,' sent it Konshens' way. The Jamaican star not only embraced the proposal but also immersed himself in the creative process. He sang through the entirety of 'Summer Bae' and shared his rendition with Azawi. This exchange of musical energies resulted in a harmonious blend of their talents, with Azawi seamlessly adding her unique touch to the collaboration.

Both '10 over 10' and 'Summer Bae' were produced by Bangar Boi, adding an extra layer of cohesion to this cross-cultural musical collaboration. Azawi's journey with Konshens demonstrates the transformative power of shared creativity, where artists from different corners of the world come together to create something that transcends geographical boundaries.

Azawi's admiration for Konshens dates back to her early days in the industry. Recalling her first performance at Roast & Rhyme, she reminisced about freestyling to one of Konshens' songs, a moment that went viral and marked the beginning of a musical connection.

Later, during an interview in Kenya at Trace Eastern Africa, she reprised the freestyle, catching the attention of Calvin Wanguku, the host, who promised to ensure Konshens saw the clip. Simultaneously, Azawi took matters into her own hands, sliding into Konshens' DMs.

""I think he realized I'm a big fan, which I have been,"" Azawi confessed, revealing her history of singing Konshens' songs during her earlier performances under bands. This genuine admiration and passion for Konshens' music laid the foundation for a collaboration that promises to resonate with fans across borders.
As Konshens gears up for his performance at Blankets And Wine on December 17 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Azawi's collaboration with the Jamaican star adds an extra layer of anticipation to the event.

For Azawi, this collaboration represents not only a musical achievement but a testament to the power of staying true to one's passion and the ability of music to connect hearts and cultures. The harmonious fusion of Ugandan and Jamaican sounds in 'Summer Bae' stands as a testament to the universal language that is music, weaving a story of collaboration, admiration, and shared artistic spirit.
