Nigerian Afrorave singer doesn’t regret giving his mother his first N1 million when he was 17 years old.
He spoke amid a raging debate sparked by Moroccan International footballer Achraf Hakimi who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain. Hakimi’s wealth is in his mother’s name which denied his estranged wife Hiba Abouk a chance to get 50% of it in their ongoing divorce case.
In the same breath, Rema recently disclosed that he made his first couple of millions when he was 17 but he felt his mother needed it more than he did at the time. He bought a car which he also gifted his mum.
“The person who I knew needed it more was my mom. So, I handed everything I made to her. I know it was cool to drive around the city as a 17-year-old in a cool whip. But I can’t drive a cool whip when my mom doesn’t have a car or when my mom has to borrow my keys. You know, I had to put her on first,” he told Z100 New York in an interview.
Although he felt that he badly needed a car, he put his family’s welfare first and it made his share in the joy of being able to support a family. “I made my first million [Naira] at 17, but I made more than a million. But it’s cool to be at that stage and be able to provide for your family,” he adds.
Rema says he has made much more money since then and he is always happy to help other people along the way to actualize their dream.
