EXCLUSIVE: You May Now Refer To Him As 'Dr. Kanye West' (Video)

While it may not be a sit on the throne of Heaven or a halo around his head declaring him a god, but it’s certainly a step in this direction; Kanye West just added a new honor to his resume: a doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Monday afternoon May 11, in his hometown of Chicago, Kanye became Dr. West when SIAC gave him an honorary doctorate. While accepting the honor, West took the opportunity to call back to one of his earliest controversies -- his "George Bush doesn't care about black people" statement from the nationally televised Hurricane Katrina fundraiser in 2005.
My medium is public opinion and the world is my canvas," West told the SIAC crowd. "'I'm sorry' is something that can give you a lot. It gives you the opportunity to give your opinion, be sorry for it and give your opinion again."
For instance: "George W. Bush…has some very cool self portraits," West said, laughing. "I didn't know he was an artist."

Much like his comment on Bush, a valid criticism that emerged not long before Bush-bashing became something of a nonpartisan national pastime, Kanye touched on the way that public opinion has gradually come around to him over the years: "Whether it's the cosign of Paul McCartney grabbing me and saying, 'It's okay, he doesn't bite white people,' or the New York Times cover, or the TimeMost Influential cover -- and now, a doctorate at the Art Institute of Chicago."
