EXCLUSIVE: Buckle Up Dancehall Fans, There's A New Sheriff In Town!

It’s been said that Dancehall is slowly fading with the king of the genre, ‘Vybz Kartel’  in jail but in Kenya, dancehall is  more than alive and one of the people we have to thank is the new kid on the block, Dj Wallace.

With his first single titled ‘Preety Girl’ this dancehall hero is set to take over the airwaves with a dose of fresh air. We had a little chat with him and this is what he said….

Q - Describe Dj Wallace ?

A - Dj Wallace is basically a young, ambitious & talented artist.

Q - Tell us about your background and how you started in the entertainment industry?

A - I come from a humble background of so many brothers and sisters. I’m the eldest. I started music the day i was born, this is something that has always been in me and I don't force it....it just happens. On a professional level this is my first year.

Q - Why genre dancehall?

A - Dancehall music is a modern twist of the Reggae music. I have always been intrigued by the reggae sound so to quench my thirst and those of my fans; dancehall was the way to go.

Q - is 'Pretty Girl' your first single? Tell us the inspiration behind it

A - Yeah. 'Preety girl' is my first single.....the inspiration behind this song is LOVE. Love for a 'preety

girl'....(breaks into laughter)

Q - What’s your next project?

A - My next projects are all inline am just taking things slow.....but believe this, all my singles will be hits.

Q - If you weren't a musician, what would you be and why?

A – (laughs)....if I wasn't a musician, I would be a deejay.....I just can't do anything else perfectly & with passion if it’s not music.

Q - Which musician do you look up to locally and internationally?

A - Locally, i have mad respect for Redsan.....internationally Alkaline, he’s young & ambitious as i am.

Q - Where would you like to find yourself in 5 years?

A – (internalizes)....Five years from now i tell you i will be on top of the food chain....Am a shark not a barracuda musically & career wise.

Q - If you had to listen to one artist for the rest of your life, who would it be?

A – Let me just say music from Robert Nesta Marley would keep me going for a life time.

Q - On the same note; Stuck on a deserted island and you're told to choose 5 songs only, which artists?

A - Damn....if I were in a deserted Island & I was told to choose five songs.....let just say any music from Bob, Lucky Dube, Peter Tosh, Darmian Marley & Alkaline....would add more life to me.

Q - If you're not doing music, what else do you spend your time doing?

A - Am into business...plus I like enhancing my skills in deejay-ing so I spend most of my time at Evolution sound doing my thing.
