Mavo On The Beat Responds to Claims of Gengetone Being Unmarketable

Celebrated Kenyan music producer Mavo On The Beat has come out to criticize those claiming that Gengetone is dead and has lost marketability.

Speaking during a recent interview, the producer who is behind the production of some of the top gengetone hits, claimed that the genre is tailored for the new generation.

He further added that he will personally ensure that gengetone does not lose its viability. According to Mavo On The Beat, critics of gengetone do not relate with the genre because they are not from the new generation.

"Gengetone haiwezi isha unless God forbid mimi niondoke kutoka hii dunia ndio ita die," Mavo stated.

He went ahead to criticize veteran disk jockey, DJ Pinye who had claimed that gengetone has lost marketability. Mavo pointed out that instead of merely claiming that the genre is dead, DJ Pinye should have offered a solution to reviving it.

DJ Pinye who is also a respectable name in the Kenyan music industry believes that gengetone music cannot be sold especially on the international level.

Last year, there was a major debate in the industry regarding the genre which is being viewed as the identity of Kenyan music.

Whereas some of the stakeholders in the industry believe that the genre will not stand the test of time, there are those who have defended it citing that its growth cannot be ignored.
