Ugandan artist Bebe Cool has sued and had renowned songwriter Blackskin Blax arrested over copyright issues concerning his 'Gyenvude' song

A few days ago, Blackskin went on a social media rant where he threatened to “teach two faded artistes” a lesson for allegedly failing to pay writers.

Though he did not mention names, it was clear that Bebe Cool was one of the said artists, as Blackskin went ahead and released his original version of 'Gyenvudde'; a song he wrote for Bebe Cool.

Blackskin’s version came shortly after Bebe Cool had released his version of the song.

Speaking to journalists recently, Blackskin's lawyer Jamaal Bahiti confirmed that his client was arrested on Saturday, adding that they are trying everything to get him out on police bond.

"Blacksin says 'Gyenvude' is still his song because he was never paid. They had a contract in March 2020 and Bebe Cool paid only UGX 500K with an outstanding balance. Blackskin gave him two months up to May to clear the balance and failure to pay, the song goes back to Blackskin," Jamaal said.

Veteran singer Rony Banton who happens to be a friend to Blackskin expressed his disappointment with Bebe Cool's decision to have the writer arrested.

"I didn't expect Bebe Cool to arrest that kid because he has helped him a great deal. The money that he has used to arrest and keep him behind bars is even more than what he demands him. Let us see where the law takes us but it is unfortunate," Rony told BBS TV.
