While signing up with Universal Music Group in 2018, Cina Soul, like many upcoming musicians in the industry, hoped it would be the beginning of bigger things. Indeed, things appeared to go according to plan, when she launched her second album and second single, under the label in 2019.
However, recently, Cina Soul parted ways Universal Music Group, citing the label limited her from achieving her full potential, especially considering how big the label is. She revealed this at an interview on Y Lounge on Y107.9FM.
“It started well. To be honest, everyone expected big because it was Universal and even I expected bigger.”she said. Cina further talked about why she considered working under the label although she was not really into labels.

“Before they signed me, I had never been signed on to any label because I was backing away from signing on to labels. Growing up, I had seen a lot of stories about what labels have done to people so I’m not quick to sign. I was rejecting deals here and there and then Universal came my way”, she explained.
The ”Jorley” hitmaker, hinted that she was fascinated, like any other musician would be, when Universal Music tabled an offer. In addition to the package offered, working with the label would be a plus for her portfolio.
She admitted having learned a lot throughout the period she worked with them, even though it wasn’t up to her expectations. One of her greatest lessons, is that working under a label is not easy.
Cina Soul is now working with her previous producers, doing her music exactly to her preference.
