Pompi Speaks on Landing Collabo with Kenya’s Sauti Sol

A collaboration between celebrated Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol and Zambian gospel artiste Pompi is in the offing. Pompi recently disclosed that his collabo with Sauti Sol is “long overdue”.

While responding to a question by ZMB Talks on whether he listens to Sauti Sol, Pompi said that he should be doing a collabo soon.

“I should be doing a collaboration with them soon,” he said.

How did he meet the band though? According to Pompi, sometime back, Sauti Sol was in Zambia and one of the members from the band was humming one of his songs ‘Silence’. It at this point that he engaged him and sought to know where he heard the song he was singing along to.

This conversation ended up in a great conversation where they discussed the prospects of a collaboration.

“I would say the collaboration is long overdue but its gonna happen,” Pompi exuded.

During the same interview, The ‘Kwacha’ hit maker revealed that he never pictured himself as a musician. He always trained his eyes on academics which his parents heavily invested in.

While in university, he honed his poetry skills and would perform in big stages. Then, he did a little bit of music just for fans and to fit in the status quo little did he know that this was God preparing him for a lifelong career.

“Music for me was just a hobby. It blew up into something that I didn’t expect…I really never had any expectation with it,” he said.

 Pompi and his wife Esther Chungu are both gospel artists.
