Sinach Sets New Record With BMI Awards Win

A global hit from Nigerian singer, songwriter and senior worship leader at Loveworld - Sinach titled 'Way Maker' has been crowned the Song of the Year at Broadcast Music, Inc., (BMI).

'Way Maker' written by Sinach herself was named the best and most popular song of the year in the BMI awards gala held virtually on August 2, 2021.

The category is the top Award in the US-based music company. With the accolade, Sinach now becomes the first African gospel artist to ever win a BMI Song of the Year Award.

Reacting to the major win, Sinach in a tweet said: "BMI SONG OF THE YEAR! So grateful to everyone that raised this anthem! #Godisnotaman." This is not the first time 'Way Maker' has helped Sinach set a record in the gospel industry.

In 2020, the song charted at number one for 12 weeks in a row on the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart, making the 48-year-old the first singer-songwriter to register such a feat.

'Way Maker' is a record released in 2015.

The song has been covered by a number of popular Christian music artists including Michael W. Smith, Mandisa, Leeland, Christafari, Passion, and Bethel Music.

It won the Dove Award for Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards in the United States in 2020, making Sinach the first Nigerian gospel artist to win the award.

'Way Maker' music video released on December 31, 2015, currently has over 179 million views on YouTube.

The video reached 100 million views in March 2019 making Sinach the first Nigerian gospel singer and third Nigerian singer overall to accomplish the feat.
