Nexus Music Entertainment has announced changes for the Chipata Auditions in Eastern Province, noting that the event will be held virtually in compliance with health protocols.

The label is currently unable to hold live auditions as seen in the past due to a surge in Covid-19 cases. Nexus said that it is abiding by the health protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health.

“Nexus Music Compilation Volume 3. Requests that our Eastern Province contestants to submit videos of themselves showcasing their talents. Travel will not be possible due to reasons beyond our control,” the label said in a statement.

Nexus is bent on growing talent among budding artistes. The talent search has enlisted some of Nexus-signed artistes to be part of the judges’ panel.

In February this year, Towela Kaira was picked to judge the auditions, a move that sparked a highly divisive debate.

Towela signed with Nexus last year and has been doing fairly well. However, some people felt that she was a greenhorn being given a crucial role in the development of Zambian Music.

“Am a fan of Towela but to be honest for me she doesn't deserve to be a judge, if you see South African idols. They put experienced people who have seen and done it all,” Bawa McLaren said.

However, Peter Greed had a different opinion. He said: “I believe Nexus Music is not one person and hence they had agreed and had their reasons for picking her as a judge for their event. Maybe when you host yours, you will also have a chance to pick your own. This attitude of PHD and thinking you know better than others must come to an end. Let's learn to celebrate when others get an opportunity to shine.”
