Ykee Benda to Step Down as UMA President 3 Months after Taking Over

Celebrated Ugandan musician Ykee Benda has surprised fans after he announced that he is resigning from his post as Uganda Musicians Association president three months after his appointment.

Ykee Benda was sworn in last year in September at Mestil Hotel after Sophie Gombya resigned to concentrate on her political ambitions.

The Mpaka Records boss made the announcement on his social media handles, noting that he had taken long time thinking about the decision before airing it out.

"I will be stepping down soon as President of UMA as I will communicate through my PR. After months of deep thought and advice from the people I trust. They need someone else," Ykee said in the official statement.

For the three months he has been in office, Ykee Benda has come under so much criticism from established artist who felt that he did not have the requisite skills to head the body.

Some of the top artists who criticized Ykee Benda include; Eddy Kenzo and Gravity Omutujju.

According to Kenzo and Gravity, UMA requires a veteran artist who has been in the industry for long and understands the needs of both upcoming and veteran artists.
