Ammara Brown Bags 2 Nominations at 2021 ZIMA Awards

Zimbabwean Afro-pop musician Ammara Brown has been nominated for two 2021 ZIMA Awards.

In a post on Instagram, an ecstatic Ammara said that her six-month-old song ‘Glow in the Dark’ was nominated under Best Video Category.

In addition, she has also been nominated under the Best Female Artiste category.

“Oh wow we just got two nominations at the ZIMA Awards Best Music Video: Glow InThe Dark, and Best Female. Congratulations to all my fellow nominees and winners,” posted the Zimbabwean Afro-pop queen.

When she released ‘Glow in the Dark’, she described it as ‘A visual gift of the acappella Glow in the Dark, from me to you. In a time when we pass judgment based on our skin and status, it is of paramount importance that we not only remember our Ubuntu but LIVE it.”

ZIMA Awards were slated to be held on February 6, 2021 but were pushed to February 20 due to the nationwide lockdown in Zimbabwe.

“Zima wishes to inform all music stakeholders that the ZIMA 2021 awards ceremony has been rescheduled. This has been necessitated by the ongoing developments around concerted efforts to curtail the further spread of Covid-19 and possibly find a lasting solution to this pandemic,” ZIMA spokesperson, Benjamin Nyandoro in a statement.

 “We hope that by February 20th, the environment will be more conducive to hold the awards ceremony while still adhering to safe health practices. Zima had 1,235 entries in 2020. It was a hard year but the huge number of entries is encouraging. Nevertheless, music is still a way of life. By close of submissions as at December 31, 2020, our team had received more than 1m235 music submissions across 30 categories. Impressive and surely well deserving of a befitting awards ceremony," the statement read in part.
